The NASA-led Artemis II mission, carrying a four-person crew beyond Earth orbit for the first time since 1972, is conducting a seven-hour flyby of the moon.
The blackout is expected to last about 40 minutes, during which the four astronauts will be completely out of contact, travelling through space in silence.
March 30 (Reuters) - NASA's Artemis program is the U.S. effort to return astronauts to the moon for the first time since the Apollo era and eventually establish a sustained human presence there, a goal Washington has framed as central to maintaining space leadership amid growing competition from China.
The mission, which launched on April 1, will see a crew go further into space than anyone else and is expected to reach the far side of the moon on April 6.
